The eHighway adapted hybrid truck is the result of a cooperation between Scania and Siemens. Scania has developed a parallel hybrid truck onto which the active pantograph from Siemens has been integrated. The pantograph enables the truck to connect and disconnect with the electric contact lines at speeds up to 90km/h. The truck has been in test operations since 2014 on a dedicated track outside Berlin. It has undergone a wide range of trials, including emergency braking, driving over obstacles and night time operation. Siemens and Scania aim to use this truck and future versions in public road demonstrations and pilot applications of the eHighway system.
